Rosa Lena Carolyn (Wallace) Dunn

My name is Rosa Lena Carolyn (Wallace) Dunn.  I am the fifth child born to the union of Margaret Harper Wallace and James Glenn Wallace, Sr.  I am the only girl, born in the middle of four older and four younger brothers.

My early schooling was at Judson S. Hill School.  My Junior and High School years were attended at Morristown College High School.  I received a two year scholarship to attend Morristown College.  In 1959, I graduated with an Associate of Arts degree.

In 1959 I moved to Bay Shore, New York to stay with extended family and to further my education and look for employment.  In 1960, I was employed by the State of New York Psychiatric Center as a (MHTA) Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide.  Over the years I furthered my education.  I took the civil service tests to upgrade my position.  After 37 years of service, I retired in March of 1995 as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Assistant II.

From a previous marriage to Jordan Robert Johnson in 1961-1985 I was blessed with three wonderful children; Renee’ Johnson Moore, Barbara LaVern Johnson, and Marvin Robert Johnson.  They in turn have blessed me with eight grandchildren and they in turn have blessed me with eight great grandchildren.  “Eight seems to be the magic number.”
In 1990, God blessed me again with a wonderful mate (Charles R. Dunn, Sr.).  We meet at church and after a year and a half; we were joined in marriage on June 15, 1991.  We now have blended family of nine children, twenty-four grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Before my retirement, I became a Family Care Provider for the State of New York; caring for the mentally challenged for ten years.  This was always a passion of mine, taking care of others.  I found it to be very challenging but also rewarding.

Upon my husband’s retiring, from Columbia University as head supervisor over the maintenance department, we relocated back to my home town of Morristown, Tennessee; where we have resided for the past fifteen years.
We are involved in both the Senior Citizens and Senior Circle groups; where we enjoy going on trips and doing various other activities.  We are members and attend Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

This is my story,” To God be the Glory”, for All He has done.
